Preparing Your Car for Winter – Oil Change

grade oil should use my carIt is written and mentioned with any of the car instruction manuals, that every 3,000 miles, a car owner should consider oil change for the well functioning of their vehicle even if this should be done as a process of getting one’s car ready for the winter time. Oil change is an important part of proper car maintenance, as in this way you can ensure your car of a smooth and efficient running. Unfortunately not all the car owners are aware of the type of lubricant that is needed especially with the drop of temperatures where the car is supposed to be driven.

So, make sure that you consider winterizing not only your car, but also your engine. Here are some tips:

  • At the first signs of the winter coming, you should go to the mechanic to whom you normally go and who also knows your vehicle. A good thing to do is to consult with him about the frequency that you plan to drive the car during the winter time and on what types of roads. Inform your mechanic about the storing place of your car – whether indoors in the garage or outdoors on the driveway. Bring to his knowledge any intention of spending winter holidays while driving the car up into the mountains. Your mechanic will be able to provide you with the right advice on how to correctly lubricate the car.
  • Many mechanics will suggest the 5W30 type of oil for the freezing temperatures, this one being less viscous allowing as such your installation to be smoothly lubricated at low temperatures.

Also make sure that the quality of the oil is very good choosing also the reputable brands which manufacture oils for winter lubrication.

In this way you can avoid damages that can be brought to the engine when freezing days start.
